ProAvio EditBOX 10PM

TMS SKU #PREB10PM
Product Overview
ntroducing the first state-of-the-art, 10-disk, Port-Multiplier disk array designed for today's performance hungry post-production and critical listening studio environments. The new EB10-PM delivers a perfect mix of disk performance (10 drive spindles) and ultra-low ambient noise, making the EB10-PM the only disk array your studio may ever need. An easy to use Port-Multiplier interface and small desktop design empowers users with up to 10TB of versatile high-performance 3Gb storage. A non-proprietary system architecture lets users run their favorite RAID or HBA PCI card, offering unlimited configuration possibilities and platform support.
Based on the success of Proavio's EB4-PM & EB8-PM storage arrays, the EB10-PM brings a new level of performance and features not found typical desktop storage arrays. Capable of delivering over 500MB/s (RAID-0) of data throughput, EB10-PM supports multi-stream 10-bit HD video projects without effort. Maximize your investment by easily connecting one system to two workstations, allowing each user to access 5 disks each. Perfect for creative professionals working in DV, HDV, SD and compressed HD formats.
Featuring Proavio's industry proven Port-Multiplier technology, the EB10-PM guarantees the industry's broadest support for 3rd party host bus adapters, RAID controllers and PM enabled Mac or PC workstations.
Benchmarks
Benchmarks will of course vary depending on the system, the eSATA card, motherboard, hard drives used, but these will give you a guide on what to expect.
Single Drive (JBOD Scenario)
80 - 100 MB/s
RAID 0 (5 Drives)
170 - 205 MB/s
RAID 0 (10 Drives)
330 - 360 MB/s
NOTES:
- Drives used in these tests were Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1 TB drives, and
benchmark results were from AJA System Test, with frame size set to 1920x1080
10 bit, File Size 2 GB. eSATA cards were Sonnet.
- Best speeds were recorded on a MacPro Tower, with the highest numbers listed
above being from that computer
- Due to bandwidth limitations of the Express34 bus on the MacBook Pro, speeds
will be lower on the RAID settings than on a Tower. Expect 10 Drive RAID 0 benchmarks
to be in the 140 MB/s range.
The Box
The EditBox 10 PM system comes in a silver aluminum enclosure. It uses a backplane design to connect the drives, which means no internal cabling. Just slide the drive in, and the drive connects with the backplane for both power and data. Drive trays are hot-swapable, so you can remove and insert drives without powering off the computer. Two eSATA ports on the back to connect to a Port Multiplier eSATA card. Fan is fairly quiet. Power supply is built into the box, so there is no external power brick to worry about.
Dimensions
17.5”x5.75”x11.5”
What's In The Box: Enclosure, 10 hard drive trays, 3' eSATA cable x 2, power cable, hard drive screws, and keys to lock drive trays.
Qualified Hard Drives
TMS Photo Video recommends Seagate or Hitachi SATA drives. The EB 8 PM supports 1 TB drives.
Qualified eSATA Cards
This enclosure connects to the computer with two cables to a port-multiplier
eSATA card. While in theory any eSATA card that supports Port Multiplication
will work, these are the cards that ProAvio and TMS Photo Video have tested.
As we test various cards, we will update this list.
